The Specialized Instruction division at the Center for Specialized Learning Services
provides cognitive-behavioral, social-emotional interventions that translate into
learning potential enhancement. Because we realize that both cognitive and socialemotional
development are critical to success in life, we work with students to
support growth in the following areas:
- Behavioral Skills, such as attendance and compliance with rules at home
and school
- Emotional Skills, such as awareness of self and others, as well as selfevaluation
and emotion-regulation
- Social Skills, such as communication and conflict resolution
- Cognitive Skills, such as mindfulness, critical thinking, and organizational
skills (including goal-setting and decision-making)
CSLS uses one-on-one consultation to cater to each student's unique learning
style. Our individualized approach demystifies learning problems and stimulates
awareness of strengths, which ultimately promotes improvement in areas of
weakness. Furthermore, our student-specific teaching strategies take into account
each student's unique socio-cognitive-emotional profile. This vital aspect has
a direct impact on academic performance, and is the product of an individual's
psychosocial context of family, school, community, and culture.
